A couple of well known and respectable high stakes online poker players have put together a bunch of money and produced a documentary about online poker. The documentary is going to be called BOOM: The Incredible Story of Online Poker. According to the website, the goal of Boom is to “chronicle the evolution of online poker and examine its impact on a handful of online poker players from around the world.”

This is great news because it’s probably the first full length piece on online poker that has ever been produced by someone who knows even the slightest bit about online poker. Everything else I’ve seen in newspapers and on cheeseball shows like Dateline has been produced by corporate stiffs who know next to nothing about online poker.

The documentary will also show what it’s like to really be in the trenches as a professional poker player. As a former professional poker player myself, I can tell you that it’s almost insane the extreme lengths we go to for true freedom. Playing online poker for a living is simultaneously beautiful and stressful as hell.
